Today we call it moisturizer, but people of the 18th and 19th centuries called it balm or salve.  Based on the ingredients and procedures given in many historic receipts, this product contains olive oil, beeswax, lavender, and calendula.

*Note: Period receipts often call for spermaceti and white lead, but we leave those out.  The whaling industry isn't what it used to be, and that delicate, pale complexion isn't so popular today.
